God's truth for today's world

Today we start a new message series called “Jesus Our Healer.” We’re going to talking about the topic of healing. Sickness is a universal need. Everyone is sick from time to time and we all know others who are battling various kinds of illnesses. The latest figures show that 18% of all expenditures in the United States are spent on healthcare, $2.7 trillion dollars worth. So as much a blessing as modern medicine is, it certainly has not eliminated sickness and disease.

People have all kinds of opinions about healing, but in this series, we’re going to using the Bible as our guide to the topic.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV) All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Today, my message is entitled “When Jesus Comes.” We’re going to be talking about Jesus. Jesus is the most influential person who has ever lived. He lived 2000 years ago, yet his influence grows year by year. Currently, 1 out of every 3 people in the world identifies with Christianity, about 2.2 billion people. Christianity is the largest religion in the world and continues to grow. Yet Jesus is also a very polarizing person when you understand what he said.

Matthew 10:34-35 (NIV) “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn “‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—

Our current message series is called “The Bible Series.” In this series, we are looking at stories that have been portrayed in The Bible miniseries recently broadcast on The History channel. Some may ask, what relevance do stories of what people have done thousands of years ago have to us today? Fair question.

First of all, these are not just any stories, these are stories that have been preserved for us in The Bible. The Bible is an incredible book, the best-selling book in history and the self-proclaimed Word of God.

Romans 15:4 (NIV) For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

Today, our message is called “A Dream Reborn.” We’re going to be talking about dreams or visions for your future. A dream or vision for the future gives you hope. A dream for the future helps you plan and focusses your energy and time. God wants you to have a dream for the future. If you don’t have a dream, then life can be very depressing and you won’t accomplish what God has for you. Some people have a dream about their future, but it’s not from God.

Proverbs 28:19 (NIV)  He who works his land will have abundant food, but the one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.

In the world, there are two kinds of people: those who see a glass 50% full as half-filled and those who see that same glass as half-empty. The person who sees the glass half-full is happy that there is still 50% left. The person who sees the glass half-empty is sad that there is 50% gone. What kind of person are you? Half-full or half-empty?

The world that we live in is not a full glass kind of world. Only when we get to heaven will our glasses be filled to the brim. In this life, we live in a 50% full glass world. There are good things in our life and some not so good things. Currently we’re in a message series called “How God Sees You.” When God looks at you, how do you think He sees you? Half-full or half-empty? When you look at yourself, how do you see yourself? Half-full or half-empty?
