God's truth for today's world

Today, my message is entitled “Weak Yet Strong.” We’re going to be looking at the topics of weakness and strength. Which would you rather be, weak or strong? I think most of us would say strong, wouldn’t we. Strength is celebrated in our society. The strong win in sports, the weak are eliminated. The strong rise to the top in areas of leadership in many segments of our society.

And what do the strong often do? They let you know about their accomplishments, how strong they are and in comparison how weak others are. When we compare ourselves to the strong around us, we may feel weak and discouraged. If only I was as strong as so and so, then life would be so much better. But what is God’s view? In this series, we are learning to see as God sees. Man looks at the external, but God looks on the heart. What looks strong on the outside, may not be so strong at all in the inside.

The Bible is an incredible book. The Bible contains the truth that God has chosen to reveal to us. The Bible teaches us how to relate to God and how to live on this earth. The Bible contains many simple truths, but also is deeply profound. God’s Word is so simple that a child can become a believer in Jesus, yet so advanced that theologians write huge books about it. Your success in life depends on your knowledge of the Bible and your application of it’s truths to your life. Yet, for many people the Bible is a confusing book. The Old Testament seems to teach some things different than the New. Sometimes, one part of the Bible seems to saying something different than another part. Why is that?

Currently we’re in a message series called “Goals 2013.” As we begin the New Year of 2013, God wants us to have goals in our lives, so that we can make progress this year in serving Him. For a believer, life is about doing God’s will. What does it mean to do God’s will?

Doing God’s will is simply discovering God’s goals for your life and then accomplishing those goals with His help. Accomplishing God’s goals for your life is the most important thing that a person can do. Accomplishing God’s goals for your life will enhance your life, the lives of people close to you and will impact eternity.

Goals are an important part of life. Someone once said, if you aim at nothing, you are sure to hit it. God wants each one of us to aim at his goals for our lives and He wants to empower you to reach those goals. Reaching new goals for God is the only way that this year is going to be better for you than last year. So, that’s why we are in the message series, Goals 2013. We’re looking at some general goals that God wants each of us to grow in during the New Year.

Last Sunday, we looked at the goal of Seeking God’s Face, growing in our communication with God. Today, my message is entitled “Grow In Your Church.” We’re going to be looking at how God wants you to grow in your relationships with other believers in your church.

So, first of all today, we want to look at the question “What is a church?” Many see a church as simply a building or a set of programs existing for the benefit of their family.

Currently, we’re in a message series called “Teach Us To Pray.” In order for learning to occur, there must be a teacher and a learner. If you’ve got the best teacher in the world, but an unengaged student, then no learning will occur. If you’ve got an engaged student, but a poor teacher, learning will be minimal. In this message series, we’re looking at the teaching of Jesus on prayer. So, we’ve got the very best teacher in the world. You couldn’t find a better teacher than Jesus. Jesus was God, so He knows better than any of us will ever know, exactly how to effectively communicate with God through prayer.
